VOTE TODAY! ITS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!

From Paul Fiorino

President, Colorado Arts Consortium
The Bonfils/Lowenstein Theatre made the Arts
News, is this an opportunity to begin a ground swell for this theater that
represents so much
of Colorado/Denver Post Heritage? I also
just got the chance to save a one room school house for $1. Do we care about
the old structures, do we let them go, will
we remember when they are gone? Does anyone
have the funds to bring these back to use? I will attend a conference in
Central City this weekend to discuss the future for Colorado's Architecture,
and round table on strategies. Stay tuned.

PS I was at the SCFD campaign wording
kickoff at the Zoo, this is an issue that concerns all of Colorado because all
free days are for all citizens of the State. Call your friends in the Metro
Area and share the opportunity to support the national model SCFD on November
2. With the campaign becoming more active we would like to clarify where to
find information. Many of you know this already, but just to clarify
as we get closer to November:
The campaign is being run by the committee,
Citizens for Arts to Zoo. There is no connection with that committee
and the Arts to Zoo web site, www.artstozoo.org.
That is Arts Communication, an SCFD organization, that manages that web
site and the quarterly Denver Post inserts. Citizens for Arts to Zoo has
hired a great staff and their office is just down the street from us -
they are at 770 Grant St. G-5. Their phone number is 303.830.2743.
Campaign information can be found on their
web site at www.yesonscfd.org, but not
at our web site www.scfd.org.
Campaign materials will not be sent out from our office, the SCFD district
office, and you will not be able to find campaign materials here. Our web
site www.scfd.org has a good history
and information on the SCFD but it does not have information about
the November election. Citizens for Arts to Zoo is the one to
contact for re-authorization, campaign materials and ballot
information through to the Nov. 2 election.
Feel free to call if you have any questions!

Water Consciousness / Erotic Pop
August 6-21, 2004. CORE New Art Space cooperative gallery,
now at its new location, is pleased to announce the opening of
ArtistsRegister.com member Carla Farsi and Warren Williams' art shows. Water
Consciousness by Carla Farsi is an exploration of themes involving fluidly
geometric consciousness of everyday city life. In particular, our cities'
plumbing systems are a necessary and almost always forgotten component of our
experience. Bathroom and plumbing materials collected at yard sales are the
show's visual pixels. Erotic Pop by Warren Williams is a visual exploration of
the idea that the things that are valued by this society are Love, Money, and
Sex. These things are connected together and sometimes one cannot be had
without the other. On this show, Warren has collaborated with guest artist Judy
Holdener. Opening Reception: Friday, August 6, 7:00-10:00pm. Closing Reception:
Friday, August 20, 7:00-10:00pm. CORE New Art Space, 900 Santa Fe Drive,

August 14 & 15
2004
Acting Technique
Saturday, August 14, 1:00 - 5:00
p.m.
$40.00 for 4 Hours
An introduction to repetition and
independent activity exercises created by Sanford Meisner which encourage
actors to explore their freedom to respond fully and honestly in the
moment. We will be working towards the goal of "receptive
listening"; or communication based in truth. Scene partners will
learn to listen on a more perceptive level. Students will be
coached with an emphasis on moment-to-moment, non-result oriented
principles. This will enhance the actor's ability to live truthfully
under imaginary circumstances.
© D. Millman
Scene Study
Sunday, August 15, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
$40 for 4 Hours
Students may bring in any material that they
would like to work on, including audition pieces, songs, monologues, and
trouble spots in their current work. Students interested in continuing
with the Meisner Technique will be encouraged to bring in prepared scenes from
contemporary playwrights such as Thornton Wilder, William Saroyan, Harold
Pinter, William Inge and Sam Shepard. If they wish to work on style, they
might choose from the works of Feydeau, Shaw, Moliere, and Noel Coward.

$60 for Both Classes
Devora Millman Biography
Devora Millman began working with OpenStage
Theatre in 1999 and as a guest artist in 2000 when she appeared as Lady
Victoria Wotton, in the world premiere musical Dorian Gray. This is her
second year teaching summer intensive workshops for OpenStage Theatre. A
professional actress for over twenty years, Ms. Millman received her BFA at
Florida State University where she studied Meisner with John Ulmer.
She received her MFA from Yale School of Drama where she studied Chekhov,
Ibsen, and Strindberg, with Earle Gister, Shakespeare with David Hammond,
Theatre of the Absurd, contemporary theatre and new plays with Andre
Belgrader. Devora is currently a member of the Asolo Theatre Company's
rotating repertory company and is also the Program Director for Acting at the
Asolo Theatre Institute. Other credits include teaching a variety of
master classes at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida,
and teaching a Meisner workshop for Riverview High School's Baccalaureate
Program, also in Sarasota.
Philosophy
My philosophy is that artists are best
served by "playing" in an environment where the concept of failure
becomes non-existent. I invite my students to participate with open
hearts and minds. In exchange, my goal as a teacher is to provide them
with a supportive environment where they can learn an array of acting
techniques without judgment. I prefer to bring my students to a place of
awareness and then make suggestions as to how to move forward rather than
berating them. I consider the classroom to be a space of uninhibited exploration.
In order to trust our instincts we must feel safe enough experiment without
being afraid of looking foolish. Remember, in Shakespeare, the fool is
always the one who sees the truth amidst chaos.

Hidden In This Picture
It's the eleventh hour! You're out of money! The budget is
busted!
The producer has given you ONE MORE SHOT!!!!
If this shoot doesn't go perfect, you're life's work is down
the tubes.
Feel the pressure...feel the excitement as Robert, a first
time movie director, stakes his reputation and career on this final scene of
his epic movie. It's perfectly planned, well rehearsed, what can go wrong...?
The Guest Lecturer
Brings 'em in...draws a crowd...fills the coffers...but why?
He's dull, boring, and speaks of uninteresting stuff!
And the crowds can't wait for the next...VICTIM!
As hard as they try to attract a crowd, this small regional
theatre can't seem to get those butts in those seats! Until they come across a
fabulous marketing scheme!!!!!

AMERICANA SUNSETS CONCERT SERIES
Wednesday, August 11. 7 p.m. |

(Reduced prices for SH members)
SPECIAL OFFER: PURCHASE 2 TICKETS FOR
THE PRICE OF 1
North Carolina native Jim Lauderdale won
both the 2002 Grammy Award for Bluegrass Album of the Year (Lost in
the Lonesome Pines) and the Americana Music Association Award for Entertainer of the
Year. In addition, Lauderdale won the Americana Music Association's Award Song
of the Year with the Lauderdale/Stanley collaboration She's
Looking at Me.
Working with others has become an integral
aspect of Lauderdale's performances in recent years. This time, local band Open
Road accompanies him in one of the last concerts of the Americana Sunset
Series.
From northern Colorado, a land where
Acoustic, Bluegrass, and traditional hybrids abound, an old wind stirs,
reawakening the force and raw emotion of the early days of Bluegrass. That
rapidly growing current is the result of the musicians in Open Road, a group
finding that present-day audiences yearn for that old-style bluegrass, with
heartfelt harmonies, youthful energy, and driving rhythm. Infused with dynamic
songwriting and impassioned instrumental work, Open Road deliver their unique
take on traditional bluegrass with their Rounder Records debut, Cold
Wind,
produced by Sally Van Meter.
MARK THE DATE!
