CAC ARTS NEWS No. 174

02/15/05

Editors Note:

I wonder about the art activity in your community. From all of the event press releases, I would assume that you must think you have as about as much activity as you can handle. But what do I know? I also wonder about how much support you receive from outside of your organization for what art event or programs you are committed to now or in the future. If it is anything like here in Estes Park, I would assume that you have been on a roller coaster of high anticipation and dashed hopes.

Oh, the events will go on and new programs will develop. However, I have been on more than my share of that roller coaster ride in the last 15 years.

After over 15 years of the Cultural Arts Council fostering the arts in Estes Park by creating events for visual artists and musicians in the area and also bringing artists and musicians from out of the area - some from out of the country, you would think there would be wide support from those artists, musicians and local government to support the very arts council that supported them and brought a viable economic base to the community. However, artist and musician's groups are like amoebas as they split into amazing little groups that form different alliances and loyalties. The local government noticed this and thinks the the local arts scene is chaotic and responds only to that group that seems to have the loudest voice, friends in high places and looks to be the group that will effect the town economically. I guess it is the nature of arts and culture and I would assume not only here in Estes Park, but also in your community. So hang in there even if it will be one long roller coaster ride. ( It helps to live long. )

LOOKING FOR AN EDUCATIONAL AND INTERACTIVE PERFORMANCE BY

A THEATRE GROUP, MUSIC GROUP OR DANCE GROUP.

I am the Project Coordinator for the 21st Century Elementary

Grant.  There are three elementary schools in Aurora involved with this

grant: Vaughn, Sable, and Fletcher.  We hold after school programs at

each school from 2:45-4:45 PM Monday-Thursday with an academic rotation

and an enrichment rotation.

We are having a Family Celebration, which is an event we invite all of

the kids in the program's families to celebrate their child's

participation and achievement in the after school program.  We would

like to have this event at Vaughn on Thursday, February 24th.  This date

is flexible, depending on what sort of group or performance you are able

to get us in touch with.

We are looking for an educational and interactive performance by a

theater group, music group, or dance group.  We want to bring in the

Arts and Theater to the school because many of these family will never

be able to experience it otherwise.  We are not looking for a

storyteller.  We would like a group to come in to the school sometime

between 2:45 and 5:00 PM.  We can make it later if those times don't

work.  A 45 minute-1 hour performance is preferred.  We are able to

spend between $200 and $300 on the performance.  This program is for

at-risk youth and is grant funded, so I would like to keep the cost on

the lower end if at all possible.

Please send me contact information for any groups that you think would

fit this description.  Let me know if I can answer any more questions in

the mean time.  Thank you very much for your help.
