CAC ARTS NEWS No. 184
04/26/05
Editor's Note:
If
any of you happen to visit the Littleton Apple computer store, go back to the
Genius Bar and ask for Danny and tell him I sent you just to thank him for
being there. In this wonderful age of 20 years of computers for all the things
we need them for, it is a joy to get free personal service from a company like
Apple and employees like Danny. I'm sorry for the advertisement but this last
week was something else at our little FM radio station that runs on Macs. One
dropped dead at the transmitter and the replacement we threw in was showing
it's old age. (Five computer years is 75 of our years!). We just received a
grant from the Gay and Lesbian Foundation for the Arts in Colorado and with
matching donations we used some of the funds and bought a Mini Mac for the
transmitter and an iMac for the studio. However we spent two days with Danny
while he got all of our external hard drives and four computers to run our
24,000 songs. My wish for all of you on PCs is to have the same service we
enjoyed!

you for replying to the question of mine on a September Conference and retreat

Wednesday,
April 13, 2004 - Denver, Colorado -
True to its established tradition of presenting a spring concert event in the
elegant environs of Denver's historic Grant-Humphreys Mansion, the Da Vinci
Quartet will wind down its 2004-2005 season there on May 18.
"Schubert's
'two-cello quintet' is widely considered a masterpiece in the realm of chamber
music repertoire," said Susan Jensen, Da Vinci Quartet second violinist.
"It's like a dramatic symphony unto itself, sometimes compared to the
rhythmic energy of Gustav Mahler's symphonies.
"Whatever
your emotion of the day, this piece is a journey, sure to offer something for
everyone."
Indeed,
in the composer's own words: "The product of my genius and my misery, and
that which I have written in my greatest distress, is that which the world
seems to like best."
We
hope you'll join us for our annual fundraiser - an exceptional opportunity to
support the Da Vinci Quartet's many year-round performances and outreach
activities.

SPRING
POLKA FEST, Friends of
Traditional Dance: April 23, 2005 Featuring the River Boys Polka Band 8-11pm,
Fort Collins City Park Center Free dance lesson at 7pm $8.00 at the door.
The River Boys Polka Band has been playing traditional Dutch Hop Music for
polka dances and weddings throughout the Front Range and Mid-Plains region for
about eight years, although each individual band member has over thirty years
experience playing this regional ethnic folk music. Dutch Hop style polkas are
songs that have been passed down through the generations from our
"Germans
from Russia" ancestors who had settled in Russia during the early 1800's
and then immigrated to the United States in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
Once settled in this area, they typically grew sugar beets and raised sheep.
