CAC ARTS NEWS No. 196

                                    08/02/05

No CAC Ars news last week if you noticed. I'm in a big move to a new house in Loveland and all that entails in changing to new phone numbers and later, a new Internet provider. So, I'm sorry if some of your press releases do not get in the newsletter on a timely bases. Hopefully all will settle down by the end of August.

All the staff and management here appreciate your understanding.

Gary Austin of Groundlings fame to bring one-man show Oil and acting workshops at Bas Bleu Theatre Fort Collins' reputation as an arts community is about to get even bigger.  Gary Austin, founder of the legendary Los Angeles improvisational theatre company The Groundlings, will present the regional premiere of his one-man show, Oil, at Bas Bleu Theater Company from August 19 through September 3. In addition, Austin, whose students include Helen Hunt, Lisa Kudrow, Paul Reubens, and many others, will be offering his famed teaching skills to the public through several acting workshops.  Oil is a semi-autobiographical account of life growing up in a windy Texas oil camp. In Oil, sharply drawn characters walk us down the muddy path between corporate life and real life as Gary's mom and dad, oil tycoons, roustabouts, and reporters tell the truth in word and song. "I grew up in Halliburton oil camps," explains Austin. "Dad worked for Halliburton. So did I. Mom was born in Oilton, Oklahoma in the biggest oil field in the world. I've lived oil and I've researched oil and every day there's something new to write about."  Tickets for Oil are $19 for adults, $15 seniors (65+), and $10 students. The workshops vary in price and length; please see the included schedule for details. Additional information including workshop schedules can also be found on Bas Bleu's website at http://www.basbleu.org/gary_austin.html.  Wicked

September 16-October 2

 The Buell Theatre

So much happened before Dorothy dropped in. Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One-born with emerald-green skin-is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is blonde, beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these unlikely friends end up as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for the most spellbinding new musical in years.

When Wicked opened on Broadway, it worked its magic on critics and audiences alike. The show went on to win 15 major awards, including a Grammy ¨ and 3 Tony Awards ¨. Today, Wicked is "Broadway's biggest blockbuster" (The New York Times). Time Magazine raved: "If every show had the brain, the heart and the courage of Wicked, Broadway really would be a magical place."

2005 Interfaith Alliance Music Festival

Don't miss TIA-CO's most inspiring musical event: Sacred Celebration

2005.  If you've ever attended one of these interfaith music festivals,

you know how moving and delightful it is to hear singers, dancers and

musicians from Front Range churches, temples, synagogues and mosques

performing in one venue.  They pour their hearts out, sharing the

passion and joy of their music.

We are pleased to announce that Ms. Denny Davidoff , founding member

of The Interfaith Alliance and current Chair of The Interfaith

Alliance Foundation, will be speaking at Music Festival and she will

be preaching the10:00 Sunday Sermon on August 7th, at the First

 Universalist Church of Denver.

This year is particularly special -- with a return performance of the

fabulous Denver Spirituals Project choir, along with Hindu dancers, a

Jewish world fusion band and many others.  And by many, we really mean

many!  A 240-member choir of (mostly) UU choir directors will also sing

as they wrap up a week-long national conference in Denver.  They will

have been learning all week about such festivals, and we hope they'll

take the concept to their own communities all over the country.  This

concert is their model -- so we REALLY all need to be there!

Bring yourself -- bring your family -- bring your friends.   The

festival is on Saturday, August 6, 7:30 pm, at Augustana Lutheran

Church, 5000 East Alameda, Denver.  For tickets (a suggested $12

donation), contact the TIA-CO office, (720) 524-1100 or you can buy

tickets online at www.interfaithallianceco.org.
