COLORADO ARTS CONNECTION

Colorado Arts news - Part 1 of 2

Send your information and copy for the next CAC Arts News     Editor and Publisher Paul Saunders at artsnews@lpbroadband.net

  THANKS!

Editor's Note:

Greetings,

With this edition of the CAC Arts News there is something new. I have taken over this newsletter from the Colorado Arts Consortium. It will be the same newsletter featuring many of the art activities that I cull from all of the many press releases each week. It is now the COLORADO ARTS CONNECTION. The newsletter from issue one has always been a way to connect all the various arts events and news to give you a small overview of what goes on in Colorado and the "world". That is an ambitious concept to be sure and I hope the effort to create the newsletter is worth while to you. I hope there is something for everyone.

I received a very nice e-mail last Wednesday from a very nice lady (D):

"What is of great value is the newsletter that you put together.  I have made good contacts from one out of three of them.  That's a good record.  Or I have received ideas that are fresh or that I can adapt.  That is rewarding and that is 90 out 0f 100 of the newsletters.  So if you can keep that going give or take a move here or there, that is a great service."

Thank you! I will try to improve this newsletter and I need all the great press releases sent to the new e-mail address as the paulsaunders@estesvalley.net address will no longer be valid in a few weeks. We bought a house in Loveland that meant a change of e-mail address, telephone numbers etc. etc.

We haven't left our commitments in Estes Park. I am still Station Manager and program producer for the Low Power FM station KREV 104.7 FM, have architectural clients and play the tuba in the Village Band and the Riverside Ramblers Dixieland Jazz Band and my wife is happy serving the public that come to the High Country Amish Quilt store - all in Estes Park. I'm connected to the arts in Estes Park and wouldn't give that up either. It was time to buy a house at the right (our affordable) price. It was time to move the newsletter to a private effort as the Consortium searches for a viable mission with Paul Friorino.

WE ASKING YOU TO ACT NOW!

Arts for Colorado is sponsoring an open informational regarding the implications of Referendums C & D.

 When: August 15, 2005

When: 5:00 PM

Where: Ricketson Theatre in the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

What: Full explanation of the proposed temporary deferment of the TABOR rebates and the actions you and your organization can take to help pass C&D.

Come to this informational meeting and learn how C & D will affect Colorado and become an advocate to recruit support from your constituencies to ensure that C & D pass in November.  We would hope that in addition to your attendance, you will bring your board chair or other key board leader.  This matter deserves the serious attention of organizational leadership.

For arts and cultural communities, Referendums C & D are Cultural Dynamite.  If C & D pass, arts education and community organizations will have the first chance in four years of seeing state support for the arts grow.  Budget pressures will be relieved, and our state leaders will have room to address the enormous demands Colorado's growth have put on programs like transportation, education and health care.

Few times in recent Colorado history has the cultural community faced such a clear-cut choice.  Please come to this informational meeting to support arts and culture in our communities.

Fort Collins -OpenStage Theatre & Company presents An Ideal Husband, written by Oscar Wilde and directed by guest artist Devora Millman. A dazzling blend of farce and morality by one of the greatest playwrights of the nineteenth century, An Ideal Husband is a scintillating, satirical expose of politics and ethics. Wilde mixes marriage, politics, morals and ambition with Victorian London society pages in a brilliant comedy of manners. An Ideal Husband sets loose blackmail schemes, marriage hunts and political quagmires-all in twenty-four hours.

After attending the wildly successful 1895 London premiere of An Ideal Husband, George Bernard Shaw wrote, "Mr. Wilde to me is our only serious playwright. He plays with everything: with wit, with philosophy, with drama, with actors, with audience, with the whole theatre." Deliciously acerbic, delectable and biting, Wilde's witty concoction asks whether there is a politician, or even a person, who is truly morally incorrupt.

An Ideal Husband performs from August 20 through September 17, 2005 on Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. with one Thursday performance on September 15 at 7:30 p.m. and two Sunday matinees on September 4 and 11 at 2:00 p.m.  Performances are at the Lincoln Center, 417 W. Magnolia St., Fort Collins, Colorado 80521.

FATT Friday - Friday At The Theatre - is a new offering for the 2005-2006 season that presents a unique event on the Friday following opening night for each season production. All tickets are $10 and audience members of legal drinking age will receive a free Fat Tire Beer during intermission. FATT Friday is sponsored by New Belgium Brewing. The FATT Friday performance for An Ideal Husband is on August 26 at 8:00 p.m.
