Editorial:
HARDENING OF THE
ARTERIES:
Got your attention did
I? Well, as editor, it is sometimes hard to have anyone listen, read or
even care about the editors opinion. Seems like everyone has one and wants the
world to know what it is - thus Blogs! Radio stations rarely voice an editorial
for some reason despite the bias you may think a station possesses. Newspapers
have editorials but are careful not to rattle too many subscribers and usually
let a columnist take the heat. Now again that I'm on the Board of Directors of
the Cultural Arts Council, I am cautioned to not say what I think sometimes in
this editorial spot. After all, it is a privilege to even have this opening
spot. I have had 100 or so weeks of not being on the board and doing this
newsletter only as a service to the Council and even then I didn't want to
abuse the privilege. Now it is time to be in tune with the concerns and real
future of the Cultural Arts Council!
I say hardening of the
arteries because it is my impression that there are representative governments
from the Feds down to the local that are more and more operating on a
"need to know" basis when it comes to setting policies. It is usually
those affected the most that are the last to be consulted. Many
governments and organizations are closing the doors to input. Therefore, if you
believe in representation, I suggest you give input to your representatives on
boards and in government and elect the people who you think are responsible to
you and the community. Local elections are coming. Think about it!

This!
Middle Eastern dances will be performed by Chandani and the Oasis

competitive dance numbers.
This show will be a
delight for all ages and will feature lively new dances in a variety of styles,
enhanced with colorful costumes.
Highlights of this
year's DanceFest include: a performance of ÒLose ControlÓ, the exciting
routine by the award-winning competitive dance/pom team; a light-hearted
traditional dance done in the style seen at women's parties of the Persian
Gulf, embellished with lavishly embroidered flowing robes; ballet pointe solos
from the popular Nutcracker Suite; and a lively Turkish Gypsy style dance,
complete with swirling skirts. In the hands-on spirit of Imagine This,
there will even be a chance for kids (of any age) to try out some moves
themselves!
