Arts News to Editor and Publisher Paul Saunders at artsnews@lpbroadband.net
THANKS!
Editor's Note:
This
is your first CAC Arts News newsletter from the new address
artsnews@lpbroadband.net! If you
have not changed the "send to" in your address book for sending press
releases, you will probably get a bounce back or I won't see it on the
estesvalley.net server which I gave up. We have moved to Loveland and wireless
broadband Internet service is very local unless I pick up the e-mail on the ISP
web site.
I
found out our new phone number is not on a do not call list so we are getting
many interesting sales opportunities pitched at us. But just in case you need
to know where to send regular mail or call just to say "Hello" (what
a concept!), I am including our personal contact information. Besides,I have
found that you can run, but in this day and age of Google and Yahoo searches,
complete with maps and aerial photos, you can't hide!

Why You Should Support Referendums C &
D
If
C & D pass, arts education and community organizations will have the first
chance in four years of seeing state support for the arts grow. Budget
pressures will be relieved, and our state leaders will have room to address the
enormous demands ColoradoÕs growth have put on programs like transportation,
education and health care.
Few
times in recent Colorado history has the cultural community faced such a
clear-cut choice. Please come to this informational meeting to support arts and
culture in our communities. Jim Copenhaver President, Arts for Colorado

The
Painting Event
From
August 6 through 26, 2005, 100 artists are now converging on Estes
Park, CO to select and paint subject matter "plein air" (on location)
from various vantage points including the greater Estes Valley, National Park
& Forest lands, St. Vrain and Big Thompson River canyons and south on Peak
to Peak Scenic Highway. Many of the participating artists are members of
Oil Painters of America (O.P.A.), International Plein Air Painters (I.P.A.P.)
Pastel Society of America (P.S.A.) and numerous other regional painting
societies. The Estes Park Plein 2005 will feature artists from 25 states
within the continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii.
From
the grandeur of high mountain valleys to the rivers below, each artist captures
a unique moment in time, and the beauty of Colorado on canvas, board and paper.
Historic landmarks such as the Stanley Hotel, MacGregor and McGraw Ranches are
just some of the subject matter artists chose, as well as the vast mountain
vistas including noted Colorado peaks like Longs, Hallet, Ypsilon, the Mummy
and the Indian Peaks Wilderness area. Others my select the high mountain lakes
and falls in the national park, or the calming fields of mountain flora
abundant with color at this time of year.
Public
Paint Outs
The
public can catch a glimpse of artists at work in the ÒwildÓ, within the greater Estes Valley and parks during
the three week painting period. As elusive as area wildlife, it is best
to look for artists at first light and just before dusk. To assured a close
hand look, the public is invited to watch the artists at work on Thursday,
August 25 (Downtown Estes Park Area), as they capture the town's diverse
environment including urban parks, riverwalks, wildlife, open space, street
scenes and historic structures and/or on Saturday, August 27 in Riverside Plaza
for a ÒQuick DrawÓ paint out and art auction.
Opening
Day Quick Draw & Auction
The
galleries invite the public to attend a
ÒQuick DrawÓ (a quick study of
landscape or portraiture on location), on Saturday, August 27th starting at
9:30 AM in Estes ParkÕs Riverside Plaza. Artists have a 90 minute
painting period in which to complete a work of art from three models or scenic
area. With the meeting of two rivers, red rock pools, trees and bronze
sculptures, there is no shortage of subject matter for artists to paint. An
auction of Ôwet paintÓ will commerce following the 90 minute stop
whistle. All finished paintings not sold at auction will be on display
and available for sale, in the Glen Haven, CO Town Hall opening weekend, then
through September in the sponsor galleries.
The
Exhibition & Sale
Starting at noon on Saturday, August 27
(after the awards judging has taken place) all four galleries open to the
public. Plein Air Art Walk maps are available, and art patrons can take
the tour and see over 500 newly created works of art, all available for
purchase. All art created will be displayed in the four sponsoring
galleries. The overall awards for the show are presented simultaneously
at the galleries at 4 PM. Artists were present during the receptions from 4:00
until 8 PM. Each piece of art displayed is event stamped and authenticated that
it was created during the two week painting period. Paintings may be taken
after opening weekend, and all remaining works will continue on display through
September 30, 2005.
