Send your information and copy for the next CAC
Arts News to Editor and Publisher Paul Saunders at artsnews@lpbroadband.net
THANKS!
Editor's Note::
It
defies all comprehension to think of the destruction in New Orleans and other
communities. While people suffer instantly, it seems like we can only act in
response in slow motion. Our response is on so many levels and this arts news
will of course have some information that I hope is meaningful and helpful.
David
Freedman from WWOZ-FM that went off the air in New Orleans writes that for a
good relief agency to support, he suggests directing listeners to donate to a
local Louisiana foundations, The Baton
Rouge Area Foundation:
http://www.braf.org/page25271.cfm
This group is working with the New
Greater Orleans Area Foundation,
whose headquarters were severely
damaged. The Baton Rouge Area
Foundation has two special funds set up,
one to aid evacuees and
refugees and one to help rebuild
infrastructure for basic human
services.
Both funds are described at the above page.
KREV-LP
104.7 FM in Estes Park is owned by the United Methodist church of Estes Park
and we have on air donation information. As a non profit station and member of
the National Federation of Community Broadcasters, we received a waiver from
the FCC as required, through the NFCB that arranged for a blanket request for
all non profit FM stations. Please go to the many web sites now up to decide
how and to what you may want to contribute. The United Methodist Committee on
Relief, UMCOR, is supported by all UM churches with annual apportionment and
therefore all donations are sent 100% for relief. UMCOR has asked to send this
message:
There
is an urgent call for bottled water to be delivered to Louisiana and ask to
contact beverage bottlers who may be able to make donations in any size and
containers. Please call UMC office (225) 346-1616 ext. 221 for direction.
Please do not drive to Louisiana yourselves, using precious fuel, and creating
more need for housing, meals, etc. that could go to local people.

to raise funds for the relief efforts
from hurricane Katrina on Sunday,

had enough responses from local
musicians Š from the consecrated to the

the whole night. All these
musicians, and Swallow Hill staff and
volunteers will donate their
music, time and effort. All proceeds
will be given to the Red Cross and
earmarked to the hurricane relief.
Swallow Hill invites the community to
drop by and make a donation for this
important cause.

twenty-five years of grassroots
advocacy for folk, acoustic and roots
music, Swallow Hill Music
Association is one of the largest
institutions of its kind in the United
States. With more than 2,000 members

Š, Swallow Hill provides a place to
celebrate music that is rarely heard
elsewhere in the Rocky Mountain Region.

Colorado
Theatre Guild Newsletter
Hello
All
There
are many right now preparing events, setting up fundraiser and establishing
business policies for donations in response to the devastation along the Gulf
Coast by Hurricane Katrina.
The
American Red Cross volunteers have been deployed to the hardest hit areas of
Katrina's destruction, providing emergency supplies to those hundreds of
thousands of victims left homeless in these communities.
The
Theatre Community is gearing up and meetings are taking place even as I type
this. Once that effort is coordinated we will get it out to you.
I'm
overwhelmed with the incoming e-mails and will share some here:
*
Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers would like to help support this emergency
effort. In order to make it more convenient for our shoppers who also
wish to donate to this relief effort, they may simply add a donation to their purchase.
Not only will 100% of their donation go directly to the American Red Cross
Disaster Relief Fund, but for the month of September, Vitamin Cottage will
match their donations made at
the
register, $dollar for $dollar These funds can then be used to
provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need.
*
From the people at North Denver News.
We
need your help. We have secured the parking lot of Highland Methodist Church,
Saturday September 10 from 10-2 for benefit for the victims of Katrina. It is
located at 32nd & Osceola, in the heart of West Highlands.
We
are hoping to get staging, a PA, some bands for entertainment.
There
is a great local improv group we are hoping to get as well.
We
need help making these arrangements.
*
We need items for auction, for both silent and traditional, for fundraising.
* We will need porta-potties and
security.
* We need help coordinating these
donations and
making these arrangements.
* We need help coordinating blood
donations.
* We need to get the word out.
Please
forward this message to your colleagues, friends and business associates. If
you are church- going, ask for an announcement from the pulpit Sunday(and that
goes for Temple, too).
Talk
to your playgroups, your poker pals. Link to us on your website.
Katrina
is the largest natural disaster in our nation's history. We have great strength
as a community. Let's put that strength and capability for collective action to
use. We need you to step up.
Please
email me with whatever help- financial, donations, and especially time-- that
you can make.
mailto:publisher@northdenvernews.com
We will post more details on our website
(

become
available.
