Send your information and copy for the next CAC Arts News to     Editor and Publisher Paul Saunders at artsnews@lpbroadband.net

  THANKS!

Editor's Note::

There are so many benefits - especially this coming weekend - for Katrina relief. I'm playing in one at the First United Methodist church in Ft. Collins at 7:00 PM with the Riverside ramblers Dixieland band along side the Stover Street Stompers and the Pouder River Irregulars of Ft. Collins. Then Sunday in Estes Park from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. We are all happy to do it as the need is so great. However, I worry about early burnout of all the benefits. Some people have said to me they are worried about all the foundation matching funds and private donations to the arts drying up. Will gas prices cut into arts funding? Who knows.

Arts are a response to positive outlooks and we can use some of that. It may be a struggle but compared to all victims of the Katrina disaster, we have little to complain about.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On an other matter:
I have been asked to support the vote for the referendums. I'm happy to do so and would appreciate any information in support by e-mail. I have so many irons in the fire that it is hard for me to generate a worthy piece. Now that I produce this newsletter without any link to a non profit, I'm free to express support for candidates for elections and advocacy without violating 501(c)3 status or requiring 501(c)4 status.
However, I'm aware that this newsletter is not about my opinions - being a raving Liberal that I am - and more about arts news. You may call me to task by e-mail but I don't think I will start a "Letter to the Editor" space in this newsletter. Just forgive me if I poke at some things that may cause you some distress. I know we are in a "Red" state and most artists have "Blue" sympathies and the two factions stare at each other in utter consternation. Some day I will describe what "Liberal" means to me and why I carry the placard proudly.
Cheers,
Paul Saunders, ed.
In 1995 Ms. Walther was selected by Sir Georg Solti as a member of his Musicians of the World, an orchestra composed of leading musicians from around the globe, for concerts in Geneva to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the United Nations. She has also served as principal violist with the Mainly Mozart Festival in San Diego and has performed as soloist with other Bay Area orchestras. An avid chamber musician, Ms. Walther particularly enjoys playing in small ensembles with her SFS colleagues. She regularly participates in leading chamber music festivals, including Marlboro, Santa Fe, Tanglewood, Bridgehampton, and, most recently, the Telluride, Seattle, and Ruby Mountain festivals, Music at Kohl Mansion, Green Music Festival in Sonoma, and the inaugural season of Music at Menlo two summers ago. summer. In 2001 she joined the Tokyo Quartet on a tour of Spain and Italy. She will be joining the Takacs Quartet as a regular member in the fall of 2005.
Geraldine WaltherÕs recordings include HindemithÕs Trauermusik and Der Schwanendreher with the San Francisco Symphony (both on London/Decca), Paul ChiharaÕs Golden Slumbers with the San Francisco Chamber Singers (Albany), and Lou HarrisonÕs Threnody (New Albion). Together with SFS Assistant Concertmaster Mark Volkert and cellist Jan Volkert, she has just released a new disc of Mr. VolkertÕs transcriptions for string trio entitled Delectable Pieces (Con Brio). Ms. WaltherÕs instrument, created by Lorenzo Storioni of Cremona in 1784, was purchased by members of the SymphonyÕs Board of Governors and is on loan to her from the SFS.
