COLORADO ARTS CONNECTION

Colorado Arts news - Part 1 of 2

Send your information and copy for the next CAC Arts News to     Editor and Publisher Paul Saunders at artsnews@lpbroadband.net

  THANKS!

Editor's Note:

We arrived back in beautiful colorful Colorado safe and sound after a 2400 mile little drive. It was sad to go for a memorial service near San Diego but wonderful to meet old friends in Grand Junction, Del Mar CA and Pasadena CA. All the speedsters,  tail gaiters and other outrageous drivers in Colorado are rank amateurs compared to our brethren in California. I shall not complain anymore.

The "Arts" may be spread out in Colorado, but I got a very close family feeling about Colorado arts in coming back. Please stay connected to one another and with me.

Two more CAC issues to go to arrive at the four year anniversary of this arts newsletter. I hope to hear from you!

Paul Saunders

Denver Ñ Trout Fishing in America (TFIA) bring their infectious brand of

folk music to the Swallow Hill stage on Friday, November 4 at 8 p.m.

This eclectic, genre-defying duo of guitarist Ezra Idlet and bassist

Keith Grimwood has been writing, recording and touring together for over

22 years. Acoustic Guitar magazine proclaims, ÒThey're an anachronism in

many ways. They play contemporary, acoustic-based music, but they are a

throwback to buskers, vaudeville, and even old-fashioned medicine shows.

Their material ranges from introspective folk and country-tinged songs,

to wildly energetic rock tunes, to Stan Freberg-style comedy.Ó Multi

award winners, TFIA have earned three National Indie Awards, two Grammy

nominations Ñthe recent release of their 12th album, Merry Fishes To

All, earned them their second nominationÑ, as well as Parents Choice

Gold Awards and American Library Awards for their childrenÕs albums. Not

the least of their list of awards, TFIA has been inducted into the

Kerrville Folk Festival Hall of Fame.

Performing music that is difficult to pin down into a particular genre

and is influenced by reggae, Latin, blues, jazz along with classical

music writing songs that run the gamut from touching ballads to silly

folk-pop tunes. TFIA prefer their diversity and claim this is the reason

that they have been performing together for so many years. Keith

Grimwood talked about trying to find their albums in music stores, "In

Nashville, we're country. Someplace else, we're in kids' music. Some

other place, we show up in the pop section. They don't know quite what

to do with us.Ó Come to Swallow Hill on November 4 and see why this band

is more than childrenÕs music and figure out for yourself what they are.

Legendary songwriters Lowen and Navarro

perform their hits at Swallow Hill

Denver Ñ Singer-songwriters Eric Lowen and Dan Navarro return to Swallow

HillÕs stage on Saturday, November 5 at 8 p.m. Bob Edwards of NPRÕs

Morning Edition has said that Lowen and Navarro are ÒÉneck deep in

integrity and oozing talent.Ó Known for penning such hit songs as "We

Belong," recorded by Pat Benetar, they have written songs for The Four

Tops, Dave Edmunds, The Bangles, The Temptations and many others. After

years of writing for other people, Lowen and Navarro decided to form a

duo in order to perform their own songs. Ever since, they have released

nine albums including their critically acclaimed debut Walking On A Wire

and their most recent release All The Time In The World (2004), which

has been called Òbreathtaking.Ó

A Colorado non-profit organization with twenty-five years of grassroots

advocacy for folk, acoustic and roots music, Swallow Hill Music

States. With more than 2,000 membersÑsome of whom are also volunteers,

Swallow Hill provides a place to celebrate music that is rarely heard

elsewhere in the Rocky Mountain Region. Three concert venues house more

than 150 performances a year, featuring some of the worldÕs great

artists as well as up-and-coming new talent. Swallow Hill provides a
