Colorado Arts news - Part 1 of 2
Send your information and copy for the next CAC
Arts News to Editor and Publisher Paul Saunders at artsnews@lpbroadband.net
THANKS!
Editor's Note:
Well,
it is a better week. As promised, I feel better this week. World wide, state
wide and local wide nothing has changed so it is just a matter of changing
focus. For me that means gearing up for getting a parade float ready, putting
on the red suit and getting smiles from as many adults and of course, children
as possible. Then there are the concerts and art exhibit openings. A mad whirl!
I
met two singer song writers, Stephen Hill and Woody Wright, on an Alaska
cruise and when I found out they were doing a Christmas concert tour, I
put up the money to get them to come from Nashville to Estes Park this Tuesday
the 28th. I have real appreciation now for those who arrange and promote
concerts! What if you had a concert and no one came! It isn't the money, it's
the worry that the performers will enjoy a great and packed audience and the
audience will enjoy a great performance. The latter part I can guarantee! Next
weeks CAC Arts News will be Wednesday afternoon and I'll report on how good I
am as an amateur concert promoter.
Cheers
and give thanks for those blessings we have,
Paul
Saunders

Presents Findings on December 6
METRO
ARTS COALITION TO PRESENT FINDINGS OF THIS SUMMERÕS ARTS SUMMITS December 6,
2005
Denver,
CO - On December 6th, 2005* from 4-6:00 p.m. at the Acoma Center, 1080 Acoma
Street, Denver, the Metro Arts Coalition (MAC) will present the results of its
6-month MAC community arts plan dialogue. MAC, with the assistance of the
Bonfils Stanton Foundation, engaged in this exploration of cultural policy in
Denver with the goal of creating a community-based, self-activated arts plan
for Denver CountyÕs small and mid-sized cultural communities. More than 80
citizens Ð representing the cultural community, foundations, public and private
sectors - have participated in these dialogues held monthly since May 2005. In
June participants identified major areas of concern and opportunity and formed
work groups to address those areas. Reports from those work groups, as well as
possibilities for implementation of the suggestions and recommendations raised
in those reports, will be presented at the December 6th meeting.
The
METRO ARTS COALITION (MAC) is a grassroots arts advocacy group that was formed
in response to the GovernorÕs line-item veto of funding for the Colorado
Council on the Arts in the Denver Metro area. MAC is committed to arts advocacy
and awareness, by forging a political presence and voice for the Denver arts
community.

FABULOUS
FREE OFFER!! Coal Creek Community Theater inherited an awesome bed designed
solely for Once Upon a Mattress. It seriously is a super prop, weighing A LOT
but very cleverly conceived and created. We are unable to store it any longer

it become dumpster material, but it probably will unless someone out there can

Colorado
Bluegrass Music Society welcomes
Palmer
Divide & Bluegrass Patriots
Friday,
November 25 | 8 p.m.
Palmer
DivideÕs members were pulled from neighboring states of Kentucky,
Oklahoma,
Tennessee, and Virginia but Colorado is the state that brought them all
together. Some of the members have performed with the likes of Mac Wiseman,
Buzz Busby, and Lester Flatt. Palmer Divide has shared a stage with the likes
of Ricky Skaggs, Vince Gill and Michael Martin Murphey. Rounding out this group
of talented musicians is Jody Adams in mandolin and fiddle. He has performed at
the White House for Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton. He has also chalked up
performances on The Nashville Network and at the Grand Ole Opry. The Bluegrass
Patriots, one of the longest-running acts in the bluegrass scene comes to
Swallow Hill. Peter Wernick has hailed them: "The Patriots symbolize the
type of commitment that makes bluegrass what it is." For years known as
one of the top traditional bands in bluegrass, The Bluegrass Patriots have been
together for nearly 25 years and
counting.
Their original song "When You and I Were Young, Maggie" received
national attention in 1991 when it appeared in Bluegrass Unlimited'sNational
Bluegrass Survey. "This is hard-core bluegrass, power packed, punchy and
passionate " played and sung by some fellows who are totally familiar with
how the real stuff ought to be done. "

Hicks, Bluegrass Now.

KGNU
& Rocky Mountain PBS welcomes Tish Hinojosa
Saturday,
November 26 | 8 p.m. Tish Hinojosa has been largely unnoticed by the music mainstream
and yet she continues to maintain her loyal following and gain new fans without
compromising her sweet eclectic style. Tish takes the Swallow Hill stage on
Saturday, November 26 at 8 p.m., bringing her expressive vocals that
have
been called "crystal-pure." Tish is also equally well known for her
blending of diverse styles of music including folk, country and conjunto, to
name a few. A finalist in the Kerrville Folk Festival's New Folk Competition in
1979, winning with the only two songs she had ever written, over the years Tish
has proven her musical abilities again and again, with 14 albums and counting.
Tish has performed with such notable folk and country artists as Bill and
Bonnie Hearne and Michael Murphy. Hailed by the Boston Herald, Tish " ...
has carved her niche in Spanish-language music, favoring a
roots-oriented
sound unlike the more mainstream pop style of the late Tejano singer Selena,
and she has always honored her cultural heritage within her music."

The Persuasions
<http://events.swallowhill.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=691&c=60&pg=2>
Vocal
legends The Persuasions, praised as the Òkings of a cappellaÓ by NPR, began
singing together in 1962. On Friday, December 2nd at 8 p.m. Swallow Hill and
community radio station KGNU bring this legendary group to the stage for a
holiday performance at the historic Cameron Church in Old South Pearl Street,
with guest artist Ben Senterfit.
Over
the years The Persuasions have continued to defy conventions, never
compromising
on their signature gospel-founded sound, hailed by rock critic Greil Marcus as
a "perfect marriage of passion and intelligence." In the past few
years, the Persuasions have treated us to CDs covering the work of some of
their favorite groups: The Beatles (Sing The Beatles), their patron and mentor
Frank Zappa (Frankly A Cappella), The Grateful Dead (Might As Well) and now
Sing U2, including songs like "Even Better Than the Real Thing,"
"Angel of Harlem," "The Wanderer," a
marvelous
cover of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," "Stuck In
A Moment You Can't Get Out Of," "When Love Comes To Town,"
"Trying to Throw Your Arms Around The World," a surprising Doo-Wop
interpretation of "Pride" (In The Name of Love), "One" and
"Mysterious Ways."

Evergreen.
The show will run, November 16 to December 19, 2005. An artist
reception
will be on Friday, November 18 from 6 to 8pm. This event is free and
open

Carolyn's
works are bold, abstract oil paintings with a Latino influence, capture a
moment that suggests a story, either fanciful, playful or a gentle poking fun
at our small vanities. She draws inspiration from poems lines of poetry,
or strong images from many years living in South America. All of my work
is drawn from that strange place where images lie in wait for a new form and
energy and hopefully will awaken a wry smile.
The
Rotary Gallery at Center Stage is open Monday through Friday, 9am to 12

CREATIVITY:
Revolutionary Ideas Come from Ridiculous Questions
author
of The Power of Approachability
Every
creative business idea begins with a question.
A
question that grabs attention. A question that might sound ridiculous at the
time. A question that propels a wrecking ball of through the walls of ordinary
thinking. But still, a question that makes every person in the room stop what
heÕs doing, sit back in his chair, stare off into space and say, ÒHuh. Now
thatÕs an interesting idea...Ó
What
is CREATIVITY?
CREATIVITY
is creating something out of nothing by asking BIG questions.
This
idea of question-based creativity has evolved through centuries of study from
around the world. ÒOne who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; one who
does not ask a question remains a fool forever,Ó says the ancient Chinese
proverb. In the same light, E.E. Cummings once said, ÒAlways the beautiful
answer who asks a more beautiful question.Ó And Voltaire is famous for his
words, ÒJudge a man by his questions rather than his answers.Ó
However,
in the last few hundred years, other creative powerhouses like Einstein, Edison
and De Bono went on to perfect question-based creativity with various
techniques and experiments still used by businesspeople around the world.
But
sometimes, businesspeople need to ask bigger questions. Questions that push an
ideas to their very limits. Questions reminiscent to KantÕs Universalized Maxim
which states ÒAct as if the maxim of your action were to become by your will a
universal law of nature."
In
other words: what if everybody did it?
Here
are some excellent examples of businesspeople - some of whom became
businesspeople unexpectedly - because they asked universalized questions to
spark their CREATIVITY.
What
if I met everyone who shared my same name?
Dave
Gorman was a stand up comic from London who decided to search the world for
other people named Dave Gorman. While it began as a whim discussed over a pint
in a pub, DaveÕs adventures of searching for his ÒnamesakesÓ led to books,
television shows, DVDÕs and a traveling concert tour across the world. Talk
about an interesting career! Check out www.davegorman.com.
What
if I always said yes to everybody and everything?
Danny
Wallace was a television producer who met an estranged old man on a bus who
told him three words that changed his life: say yes more. So he did. In fact,
he didnÕt just say it more, he said it ALWAYS. To EVERYTHING. For 6 months! And
it changed his entire perspective on life, helped him meet his future wife, and
of course, inspired him to write a hilarious book called The Yes Man. Danny is
now somewhat of a superhero around London. Check out www.dannywallace.com.
(Interestingly enough, Danny Wallace was Dave GormanÕs old roommate. Guess the
CREATIVITY acorn doesnÕt fall far from tree!)
What
if everybody wore their Lee jeans on the same day?
In
1995 somebody at Lee Jeans asked this question. 10 years later, Lee National
Denim Day is the world's largest single-day fundraiser for breast cancer. On
one Friday in October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Lee Jeans
encourages millions of people nationwide to slip into their favorite jeans and
make a $5 donation to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Since 1996,
Lee National Denim Day has raised more than $52 million for breast cancer
research, education, screening and treatment programs. To learn more, check out
www.lee.com.
What
if everybody in Seattle read the same book?
ItÕs
doubtful that either Nancy Pearl, executive director of the Washington Center
for the Book at the Seattle Public Library (WCB), or Chris Higashi, associate
director for WCB, realized just how influential an idea they had conceived when
they launched "If All of Seattle Reads the Same Book" in 1996. Today,
over 50 cities, counties, or states have begun programs that encourage
communities to read the same book at the same time and then to discuss it in
numerous venues. For more information, check out www.bookweb.org.
What
if everybody donated just one dollar to cancer?
YouÕve
seen those ubiquitous yellow bracelets on the wrist of your friends, family
members, politicians, athletes, even rock stars and actors! And all those
people did was donate one dollar to cancer through The Lance Armstrong
Foundation. Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist, Lance
Armstrong, the LAF provides the practical information and tools people living
with cancer need to live strong. Not to mention, their initial campaign was
recorded as one of the most successful in history, raised millions of dollars
for cancer awareness, and even started a wrist band fad that will probably go
down as one of the most memorable trends of the new millennium. Go to www.livestrong.org.
What if every customer was always greeted at th
