  THANKS!

Editor's Note:

The concert on Tuesday that I arranged with two singers from Nashville was fantastic for everyone. Now I put aside being a promoter!

As I said last week, " I have real appreciation now for those who arrange and promote concerts!". We had a great time! I just wanted to share it with the world. We had a good house as it turned out but I'm not used to the stress of working out all the details. After building a float for the radio station and being in the Christmas parade the day after Thanksgiving, playing early in the day in the Dixieland Band in a park and then doing Santa for two hours after the band, put that whole day as great fun but somewhere fatigue set in. I hope all of your activities are as wonderful and that sometime we can all settle down with a glass of wine and a Valium to enjoy a winter's quiet time.

Cheers and give thanks for those blessings we have,

Paul Saunders

ASCOT BALLET YOUTH COMPANY presents THE NUTCRACKER

Directed and Choreographed by Nikoloz Makhateli, Artistic Director

Magic, music and merriment will fascinate and delight audiences of all ages at the Ascot Ballet Youth Company's THE NUTCRACKER, performed at the beautiful Newman Center for the Performing Arts (University of Denver campus) on December 2nd and 3rd.

In all the splendor, spectacle and finest traditions of this beloved holiday classic, Herr Drosselmeyer gives the gift of magic and wonder to Masha, his favorite godchild.  He transforms the nutcracker doll he gives her into the noble Cavalier who saves her from the mischievous, scurrying mice. He then sends Masha and her Cavalier to beautiful, enchanted lands of snow and sweets, complete with the Snow Queen, Sugarplum Fairy, dancing snowflakes, angels, flowers and exotic dancers from Spain, China, Arabia and Russia.

The Ascot's own Drosselmeyer, Nikoloz Makhateli, has worked his own kind of Nutcracker magic and wonder for dancers and audiences in many parts of the world.  Mr. Makhateli himself danced the role of the Cavalier in several productions in Russia.  His own children are highly esteemed Nutcracker dancers in their own rights: This holiday season, David Makhateli performs the Cavalier for the Royal London Ballet, and Maia Makhateli is performing the Sugarplum Fairy for the Colorado Ballet.  Maia Makhateli recently received both local and world-wide accolades for her technique and artistry as Aurora in the Colorado Ballet's THE SLEEPING BEAUTY.

THE NUTCRACKER will feature dancers from the Ascot Ballet Academy, recently named "The Most Outstanding Ballet School in Colorado - 2005" by Youth America Grand Prix.  At the 2005 YAGP regional competition, all senior level 1st places, the overall grand prix award and other awards were given to Ascot dancers.  One of the Ascot's dancers, only 14 years old, was chosen as a finalist to dance in the YAGP Finale in NYC; she was the only dancer from Colorado and one of just a handful of dancers from the U.S. to be invited to the finals for this highly prestigious, international competition.

THE NUTCRACKER will be performed on December 2nd at 7pm, and on December 3rd at 2pm and 7pm.  Tickets are very affordably priced at $19 for adults, $15 for students/seniors, and $12 for children 5 year or younger.  For more information or to purchase tickets, please call the Ascot Ballet at 303-904-3334 or visit our website at asctoacademies.org.  Tickets may also be purchased at the Newman Center Box Office at 303-871-7720 or call Ticketmaster at 303-357-ARTS.

Swallow Hill and KGNU present benefit concert with

The Persuasions w/Ben Senterfit

Friday, December 2 | 8 p.m. | Cameron Church

Vocal legends The Persuasions, praised as the "kings of a cappella" by NPR, began singing together in 1962. On Friday, December 2nd at 8 p.m. Swallow Hill and community radio station KGNU bring this legendary group to the stage for a holiday performance at the historic Cameron Church in Old South Pearl Street, with guest artist Ben Senterfit. Hailed by L.A. Weekly, The Persuasions "are to singing what Muhammad Ali was to boxingÑinvincible, innovative, original, beautiful." The

Persuasions originally began as an informal singing group; they were discovered when one of their informal taped sessions played in a New Jersey record store and was overheard by Frank Zappa: "I could tell, even over the phone, that these guys were something special."

ONCE UPON A PALETTE, OILS BY CAROLYN EVANS CAMPBELL AT THE ROTARY GALLERY AT

CENTER STAGE IN EVERGREEN:  Showing at the Rotary Gallery at Center Stage in

Evergreen.  The show will run, November 16 to December 19, 2005.  An artist

reception will be on Friday, November 18 from 6 to 8pm.  This event is free and

open to the public.

Carolyn's works are bold, abstract oil paintings with a Latino influence, capture a moment that suggests a story, either fanciful, playful or a gentle poking fun at our small vanities.  She draws inspiration from poems lines of poetry, or strong images from many years living in South America.  All of my work is drawn from that strange place where images lie in wait for a new form and energy and hopefully will awaken a wry smile.

The Rotary Gallery at Center Stage is open Monday through Friday, 9am to 12

noon, and during performances, on Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at

2pm.  Directions, take Highway 74 to Meadow Drive to Iris Drive and Right to

Firewood Drive.
