  THANKS!

Editor's Note:

It has been a strange year in the arts. Many wonderful art exhibitions and concerts.

I know because I have been involved with some and even promoted one concert. I read all the arts news item you send for this newsletter and I thank you. I wish I had the time to come to every event. On the other hand, it is still tough to find arts funding and hang onto the arts programs in our schools. It is even hard to settle into a mood what with quick cuts in movies and TV - including the president interrupting "Once Upon a Mattress" to tell us "I'm no dictator". Our attention spans are being forced into shorter segments. Strange times.

As Santa I was privilege to hear over four hundred children sing Christmas music while gathered on a school gymnasium floor. What a wonderful sound. I vow to record them for the radio next year. I received more hugs from little girls and high fives from the boys. Pure love. My wish for the coming year is that you have the sense of wonder, anticipation and love of young children. I know it is our job as adults to make them to question and to be stressful, worried, cynical and disillusioned to cope with the world, but know they are our hope for the world. I envy teachers who know them every school day.

Cheers and give thanks for those blessings we have,

Paul Saunders

Fort Collins - Rabbit Hole Radio Theatre, an artistic endeavor of OpenStage Theatre & Company, is proud to present its third radio theatre production, Mythologica, an original radio dramatization of adapted myths from cultures around the world.   Rabbit Hole Radio Theatre's Mythologica will be broadcast on KRFC 88.9 FM, starting Sunday, January 1st at 4:30 p.m., with each subsequent installment of the series airing Sundays at 4:30 p.m. through March 26.

In this unique radio drama series Mythologica audiences will be treated to a variety of comedic and tragic tales of adapted myths.  Mythologica echoes ancient voices from Egypt, Japan, Hawaii, India, North America and more, sharing the ancient tales of their traditions and beliefs.  The first episode, Eight Legs and Attitude, is an Anansi myth from West Africa, recounting Anansi's frolicking adventure to capture the stories of the world from the Sky King.  There's something for everyone in this innovative and imaginative radio theatre project of 13 half-hour episodes.

Producing Artistic Director for Rabbit Hole Radio Theatre, David Robison, affirms that, "Over a hundred Colorado volunteer artists of all ages expressed their creative abilities to develop Mythologica through writing, performing and sound engineering.  Each episode gives voice to an ancient culture and invites you to share in an oral tradition that began at the very dawning of civilization.  Join us on this journey through the drama, humor, and adventure of the world's ancient heritage."

Celebrate the Season of Music

Over the years, Augustana Arts has presented some of the most renowned national and international musicians as well as provided an important venue for many Front Range performing groups.

We've donated over 25,000 free concert tickets to senior centers, halfway houses, and other socialservice agencies.

We've been an important resource to local public and private schools by providing quality music education programs and after school programs to thousands of

children in the Denver Metro Area.

Our City Strings Outreach program provides Suzuki string instruction to children in Aurora who would otherwise be unable to experience such a program.

And, it's because of you.  Your patronage as an audience member and as a donor helps fuel our growth and capacity for outreach.  This month, Celebrate the Season of Music with us through a year-end gift and help us continue to fulfill our mission to

gather community, support the arts and delight the spirit.

Best wishes for a wonderful holiday from the Board and Staff of Augustana Arts

Best

December 15, 2005 - Denver, Colorado - The Colorado Chamber Players (CCP)

will celebrate the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth in a unique way:

through the eyes of the great scientist Albert Einstein.

Indeed, Einstein was an accomplished violinist who loved Mozart's music. He

once said that he would have been a musician had he not become a scientist."ÏI

live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music. I get the most

joy in life out of music."

"Along with Mozart's upcoming birthday, we wanted to celebrate Einstein's

Miracle Year Centenary,"  said Barbara Hamilton-Primus, CCP Executive/Artistic

Director and violist. "In 1905, Einstein wrote four ground breaking papers,

including his Theory of Relativity. The scientific community worldwide has been

celebrating Einstein"s Miracle Year throughout 2005, but it is also wonderful to

recognize his great love of Mozart's music.

"We'll play two of Einstein's favorite Mozart works, the late Quartet in C Major and the Quintet No. 6 in E-flat Major, and Kate Light's narration

will give the audience some ideas about how both geniuses worked."

CCP commissioned New York poet Kate Light to write a narration for Einstein's Mozart.  Light, who will narrate both Denver concerts, previously

wrote the narration for Bruce Adolphe's Oceanophony - a full-length family concert

piece for narrator and chamber ensemble which premiered in 2003 at SummerFest

LaJolla.

"The K. 465 quartet is one of six that Mozart dedicated to Haydn," added Paul Primus, CCP violinistÏ"They were great friends, even though they were 24 years apart in age."

"Dissonant" is part of the quartet name because of its introduction, which actually sounds more like late Beethoven in its adventuresome harmonies. The rest of the quartet is refreshing and ebullient by comparison.

Similarly, the quintet is alive with invention and beauty. Composed in the same time period as Mozart's operaÏThe Magic Flute, it has much of the same lyricism, optimism, rich sonorities, and folk-like melodies. In fact, the late viola quintets are often noted as Mozart's consummate chamber music achievements.

"Today, music and science are far apart as disciplines," said Hamilton-Primus. "But in Einstein's youth, it was fairly common foryoung Europeans to

study an instrument, regardless of their career. Who knows what Einstein‰'s

scientific life would have been without his study and love of music?"

Join us for this musical exploration of great minds!

About the Colorado Chamber Players

The CCP - now in its 12th season, titledÏ"Elements" - is a dynamic chamber

ensemble comprising 12 distinguished musicians who perform nationally and

internationally. The CCP released its first CD, "Uplifting Discoveries from a

Generation Lost," on the Centaur label in 1997. The chamber works presented by this

virtuoso group have ranged from Bach to Brahms to lesser known composers, with the CCP especially relishing the less commonly followed composers, such as

women and Latinos, and banned composers - including blacklisted Holocaust- and

McCarthyism-era composers. The group is ensemble-in-residence at the Mizel Arts Center and with the Denver Young Artists Orchestra.

About Kate Light

Kate Light's books are The Laws of Falling Bodies, co-winner of the 1997

Roerich Prize, from Story Line Press; and Open Slowly, Zoo Press. Her poetry has

appeared in The Paris Review, Hudson Review, Dark Horse, Washington Post Book

World, Feminist Studies, Barrow Street, Carolina Quarterly, Rattapallax, The

Formalis and The Penguin Book of the Sonnet, among other publications. Light,

who is also a professional violinist in New York City, was Visiting Poet at

Cornell University in 2004.
