THANKS!
Editor's
Note:
On Monday I sent to
the mailing list an announcement concerning AOL and Yahoo's pending plan to
charge for getting bulk mail through to you. Forbes has a web site article on
the subject in context of spam. <http://www.forbes.com/2006/02/06/email-aol-yahoo_cx_ck_0206spam.html>
(And if anyone gets spam, it is me! The old estesvalley.net address is still
active as I still get a few press releases. The newer addresses will fill up
with spam in time.)
What the consequences
are for newsletters like this one is something I will just have to see how it
all plays out. In the past I have had problems with AOL and found a work
around. Some city governments like Denver have a firewall that has blocked this
newsletter. Some governments like Greeleyare very sensitive to certain words
and phrases that blocks this newsletter for evermore - and I do try to keep it
clean. Some of you that have received this newsletter at a business have been
blocked to "unauthorized mass mailing" and I have had to delete the
address after several attempts. And you thought all I had to do was cut and
paste press releases after blathering on with a short editorial.
I have a second cousin
who publishes a weekly newsletter to the Apple Mac community - TidBITS
List-Subscribe:
<http://www.tidbits.com/about/list.html> with this Tuesday's issue of
#815 and with thousands of addresses, he has a very sophisticated method of
dealing with sending e-mail and addressing bounces etc. I hope to hear how he
will deal with this new situation.
If it ain't one thing,
it's another!
Cheers and give thanks
for those blessings we have,
Paul Saunders

- Pow'r Pickin' magazine raves, "Sons & Brothers is the
most exciting acoustic band in Colorado. They enthrall an audience to the
extent that after a particularly powerful song, you may hear a collective gasp
as listeners, stunned by the originality and emotion of the music, suddenly
remember to breath." Colorado's own Sons & Brothers will be bringing
their own "WestGrass" to the Swallow Hill stage on Friday, February
24 at 8 p.m. "WestGrass" is the term the band uses to describe its
presentation of acoustic music that combines elements of western, gospel, bluegrass,
and old time fiddle music. "We draw on the traditions of bluegrass and old
time and use these elements to describe and present experiences relevant to
life in the west, and more specifically, here in the mountain west," says
Frank Wolking who plays guitar and sings in the group. "I feel very
fortunate to play music with such a great group of young men. My sons Mike
(dobro, banjo, guitar), Joe (mandolin and fiddle), and Aaron (bass guitar) are
really playing and singing some wonderful music at this point in their lives.
It seems like we're right on the edge of something very special in the way that
we are able to work together and present this view of our lives here in the
western region of the United States."
"There are few
bands in any genre that can take a song and make it uniquely and splendidly
their own as well as these four men from Westcliffe, Colorado," says David
Patton from Coal Creek Bluegrass Band. The band has traveled and bringing
"WestGrass" to concerts and festivals in numerous states over the
past six years and, in 2004, they took "WestGrass" to Scotland,
England and Wales with great success. Dave Higgs, of Bluegrass Now magazine praises, "It's not only Sons &
Brothers powerful paint-pealing vocals that make them one of the most
strikingly original bands in bluegrass, but it's their sound - an arresting
brand of bluegrass flavored by the wide open spaces, grandeur, and panoramic
majesty of the West." "Sons & Brothers gave me one of those rare
musical memories I'll always cherish - the incredible experience of seeing a
band (with no expectations) and being totally blown away. It's something I'll
never forget." Tim Walsh,
Bluegrass Now magazine.

The Theatre Department of Denver School
of the Arts is proud to present
Oscar Wilde's classic Š John Worthing, a carefree young gentleman, is the
inventor of a fictitious brother, "Ernest," whose wicked ways afford
John an excuse to leave his country home from time to time for London. There he
stays with his close friend, Algernon Moncrieff. Algernon has a cousin,
Gwendolen Fairfax, with whom John is deeply in love. During his London
sojourns, John, under the name Ernest, has won Gwendolen's love, for she
strongly desires to marry someone with the confidence-inspiring name of Ernest.
But when he asks for Gwendolen's hand from the formidable Lady Bracknell, John
must reveal he is a foundling who was left in a handbag at Victoria Station.
This is very disturbing to Lady Bracknell, who insists that he produce at least
one parent before she consents to the marriage.
Returning to the
country home where he lives with his ward, Cecily Cardew, and her governess,
Miss Prism, John finds that Algernon has also arrived under the identity of the
nonexistent brother Ernest. Algernon falls madly in love with the beautiful
Cecily, who has long been enamored of the mysterious, fascinating brother
Ernest. With the arrival of Lady Bracknell and Gwendolen, chaos eruptsŠ
